Project Description

The Villages of Kinderhook and Valatie are in need of a coordinated plan to improve local infrastructure that includes strategies for shoreline resiliency, recreation, and connections between the Creek and the EST; all to foster recreation-related and tourism-related economic development. The NYS Department of State’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP)…

The Villages of Kinderhook and Valatie recognize their shared history, common goals, and the successful projects that they’ve partnered on which illuminate their heritage; together they intend to prepare a Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan (LWRP). The Plan will focus on Villages’ ideal location along the Albany Hudson Electric Trail (AHET), a key segment of the Empire State Trail, and the great potential of recreation along Kinderhook Creek, where they share six (6) miles of shoreline. A comprehensive plan for heritage and recreational tourism centered on the AHET and Creek will spur greater economic development and increase overnight stays in the Villages. Along with the Creek, the Villages seek to leverage additional resources such as their charming historic downtowns and their local cultural heritage.
